Nashville Hot Chicken Recipe – Banquet Mega Bowls Review
If you read the food blogs on GroovySauce, you already know my love for the new and wild frozen food options out there! When I saw this awesome looking package for Banquet’s new Mega Bowls: Nashville Hot Chicken Recipe, I knew I had to try it out. Its like it was calling out to me! It looked so tasty! This is what I experienced!
First Thoughts
I know this is going to make me sound like a bit of a fat guy, but the bowl’s portion here is far less than what I expected. I’m a pretty big guy and I would have loved at least 150% more than what they gave me. Still, the entire package was reasonably priced, so that’s not really a huge factor for me.
Now on to the first bite!
There is an amazing sauce here that is ample and compliments everything. I took a bite of the corn and mashed potatoes and the fiery sauce was fantastic with it. Its like a wonderful spicy gravy. The same thing can be said of the breaded chicken, as the sauce does an amazing job complimenting its flavors as well.
That brings me to my second favorite thing about this bowl, the chicken and more specifically its breading. The breading had a definite spicy flavor to it. Not super spicy, but a genuine Nashville-hot flavor. I was very impressed by the flavor and juiciness of the chicken throughout.
Now moving on to some criticisms and there really aren’t many.
Firstly, the mashed potatoes really didn’t impress me here. They weren’t necessarily bad, but they just tasted a bit on the generic side. Secondly, again the portion size here is a bit small. If they made the serving size about 150% larger I would be very happy.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I really enjoyed this meal. That sauce is just amazing. Sure, the mashed potatoes are a bit generic, but in all honesty, that sauce and the breaded chicken do an amazing job compensating for that genericness. If you like Nashville-hot related foods, this might be the thing to load your fridge up with. Its a pretty amazing little frozen meal overall.
